Japanese cuisine, like many other Asian cuisines, has found its way into the hearts of Vietnamese people. We have embraced their culture, technology, and flavors. We certainly enjoy Japanese dishes like Ramen, Gyoza, Omurice, Teppanyaki, and Menchi Katsu.
What is Menchi Katsu?
Menchi Katsu, or "Ground Meat Cutlet," is a delicious deep-fried ground meat patty served with katsu sauce. It is made from a mixture of ground beef and pork, mixed with finely chopped onions, seasonings, and spices. The meat mixture is shaped into patties, coated in flour, and fried to a crispy golden brown. It is quite similar to Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) and Korokke (croquette). Tonkatsu is a breaded and deep-fried pork fillet or loin, while Korokke is a deep-fried patty made from mashed potatoes mixed with ground beef and sautéed onions.

How to Serve Menchi Katsu:
Menchi Katsu can be served and enjoyed in several ways. Here are a few ideas:
Serve with rice, shredded cabbage, and sliced tomatoes. To maintain the crispiness of Menchi Katsu, keep the sauce separate.
Another option is to drizzle homemade sauce over the Katsu. This method allows you to enjoy Menchi Katsu immediately. It is also helpful when serving children, as it reduces the mess they might create.
If you prefer not to serve it with rice, Menchi Katsu can also be used as a 'Katsu Sando,' the Japanese sandwich version. Place the katsu between two slices of bread or a bun, spread with homemade sauce, and add cabbage or lettuce and sliced tomatoes.
Storage Notes:
Let any leftovers cool completely before storing in an airtight container. You can keep it in the refrigerator for about 3 days or freeze it for up to a month. To reheat, place in an oven at 350°F (180°C) until heated through.
